Locum Tenens Optometrist (O.D.) Job in Northwest Alaska. The adventure of a lifetime!
This is a contract Optometrist position in Northwest Alaska. Here you’ll serve patients in a rural community as well as in its surrounding villages. With no call, no weekends, and flexible scheduling options, this role offers the chance to practice at the top of your license while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Key Job Details:
Assignments: 3-month minimum commitment or month-on-month-off commitment.
Compensation Breakdown:

- $115.00 hourly rate.
- Travel and housing accommodations provided during assignments.
- On-Site accommodations available during community clinic trips.
Responsibilities:
- Patient Volume: Varies, depending on location. Some locations average 7-9 patients per day, other locations average 15-20 patients per day.
- Staffing Mix: Varies, depending on location.
- Hospital Clinic:
- Dedicated staff perform patient work-ups, including auto-refraction and OPTOS fundus photography
- Optometrist completes charting, OCT imaging, and most visual field testing.
- In Village Clinics
- Most trips to villages are 4-5 days long.
- An assistant is available to check in patients and assist with contact lens and glasses orders.
- Hospital Clinic:
Position Requirements:
- Active Optometrist (OD) license – Any state license accepted!
- Active BLS
- COVID vaccination with booster.
- Must be culturally sensitive and willing to embrace the native community and their culture.
- Must be excited about working in rural Alaska.
