Since 2009, we’ve been helping optometrists and ophthalmologists find jobs and supporting ophthalmology practices with physician recruitment across a wide range of settings—from private practice to hospital systems, from OD-only groups to integrated OD/MD organizations.
Over the last decade, as we received more and more requests from client practices as well as inquiring groups looking to hire optometrists, our work naturally shifted toward a more even split—today, roughly 50/50 between ophthalmology recruitment and optometry recruitment.
As that shift happened, it became clear that our original name no longer reflected what we actually do.
A name that no longer reflected the full picture
When we launched as Ophthalmology jobs Online, the name made sense. It described our early focus and clearly communicated what we did at the time.
But over the years, it began to create an unintended gap.
For many first-time visitors—especially optometrists discovering us through search—”Ophthalmology jobs Online” sounded like a traditional job board focused only on ophthalmology physician roles. That wasn’t the case, but in a search-driven world, first impressions matter. And they often happen before someone reads further context. We realized that some optometrists and practices we were already working with—and many more we could help—weren’t immediately recognizing that we served them too.
So we made a decision to change the name.
Becoming OjO Recruitment
While the company originally launched as Ophthalmology jobs Online, our work has always been focused on full-service ophthalmology and optometry recruitment built on relationships, trust, and helping physicians and practices find the right long-term fit.
Over time, the organization expanded well beyond what the original name fully captured. Today, we partner with ophthalmologists, optometrists, private practices, OD/MD organizations, hospitals, health systems, corporate and retail optometry groups, and private equity-backed eye care organizations nationwide.
The name OjO Recruitment more accurately reflects both the breadth of the organizations we serve and the consultative recruiting approach that has guided our work from the beginning.
What hasn’t changed
While our name has changed, the philosophy behind our business has not.
We remain independently owned and operated, and the same team continues to lead OjO Recruitment. There has been no acquisition or change in ownership.
What has also not changed is how we work.
We focus on long-term relationships and making the right placements rather than simply filling positions quickly or in volume. The goal is not just to help practices hire doctors, but to help physicians, optometrists, and organizations find the right long-term fit.
Whether we are working with:
- ophthalmologists seeking surgical or comprehensive practice opportunities
- optometrists exploring clinical, retail, corporate, or hospital-based roles
- OD/MD private practices building provider teams
- private equity backed eye care organizations
- healthcare organizations hiring for long-term physician needs
The focus remains the same: helping physicians and organizations build successful long-term professional relationships.
Looking ahead
This is not a new direction. It is a clearer expression of what we have already been doing for years.
Ophthalmology remains central to our work. Optometry has become an equally important part of it. And our commitment to both communities remains strong.
We are grateful to the physicians, optometrists, practices, and partners who have trusted us since 2009 and helped shape the company we are today.
OjO Recruitment is simply a clearer name for the same work—broader, more inclusive, and more reflective of where eye care recruiting is today.

We have been in business since 2009, working with both ophthalmology and optometry practices and candidates across a wide range of settings.
Why did you change your name from Ophthalmology Jobs Online?
We changed our name because our work evolved over time.
While the original name reflected our early focus, it no longer represented the full scope of what we do today. Over time, optometry recruitment became an increasingly important part of our work, and today our services are roughly balanced between ophthalmology and optometry.
We became OjO Recruitment to better reflect that reality and make it easier for practices and doctors to understand what we do.
Is OjO Recruitment still the same company?
Yes. We remain independently owned and operated. The same team continues to lead OjO Recruitment, and there has been no acquisition or change in ownership.
How do you pronounce OjO?
OjO is pronounced “O-Joe.”
Spanish-speaking colleagues sometimes naturally read it as “O-ho” (since “ojo” means “eye” in Spanish), and that connection was intentional when the name was created.
Most people in our network simply say “O-Joe.”
